This site (tanach.geulah.org.il and related geulah.org.il pages) is run by the ShirHashirim Institute. We collect as little as possible. There are no user accounts, no advertising and no third-party trackers.
We count page visits with Plausible Analytics, which we host ourselves at plausible.geulah.org.il. Plausible sets no cookies and does not identify you. To count unique visitors, it uses your IP address and browser user-agent to create a hash that changes daily, and then discards them. The only data kept is totals: pages viewed, the referring site, country, browser type and device type. Nothing is shared with third parties.
If you ask the site to email you a verse, your email address is sent to our server once and used only to send that message through our mail provider. Our server does not store the address in a database or file and does not add it to any mailing list.
To save you retyping it, your browser keeps two cookies on your own device:
saved_email_address: the last address you used, kept for 30 days.sent_email_history: which verses were sent to which address, kept for 24 hours to stop duplicate sends. These cookies are not sent to analytics or any third party. You can delete them at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser.
Note: if you put your address in a link (for example
?email=you@example.com), it becomes part of the page address. It may then appear in
your browser history and in our web server's standard access logs (see below).
Like any web server, ours records standard request logs (IP address, time, requested page, browser type). We use them only for security and troubleshooting and do not sell or share them.
The RandomVerse Android and Wear OS apps work offline: the verses are built into the app, and your verse history stays on your device (and on a paired watch, if you have one). The apps collect no identifiers, location, contacts or usage data.
The phone app uses the internet in only one way: when it starts, it asks our server whether a newer version is available. That request contains only the app's version number. When you tap to open a verse or the update link, it opens in your web browser, and the rest of this policy then applies.
If you use the email button, the phone app saves the address on your device so you don't have to type it again. You can clear it from the same button (long-press). The address is passed to the website in the link it opens (see "Sending a verse by email" above).
You can use every part of the site without giving an email address. Using a content blocker that blocks analytics does not affect how the site works.
